Continuing south past Punta Barbero lies one of the most spectacular dive sites on Tenerife. A rock shelf protrudes a long way out to sea in a westerly direction from the shore. With the top at 12 metres, the anchor is placed at the foot of the wall in 22 metres, providing shelter from the occasionally strong currents.
This site harbours marine life in greater numbers and variety than can be found anywhere else in the area. The base of the wall is deeply undercut, supplying suitable resting places for reclusive and nocturnal creatures, and at one point Red Gorgonians can be seen.
Moving north away from the wall, an area of huge boulders is found at a maximum depth of 28 metres. Among and under the large blocks of stone, we find the meeting place for large shoals of Grunts and several different species of Bream. Moray eels, Stingrays and Triggerfish as well as large Jacks are also regularly seen here. The underwater photographer and naturalist will be reluctant to leave this site. The nature of the rock formation makes it an excellent multi-level dive, remaining air can be consumed on the reef top and a safety stop holding the anchor line concludes the dive.
