Tenerife Dive Sites: Octopus Cove

Octopus Cove is a picturesque little bay set beneath the 500 metre high cliffs. Experienced divers can be dropped off outside the bay and explore the reef while making their way to the boat which will be anchored in the bay. Inside the bay is ideal for those who have not dived for a while. This site offers fantastic opportunities for macro photography.

On one side of the bay there is a small reef covered in sponges and anemones, which provides refuge to many different species of fish. A resident shoal of Barracudas that is accustomed to divers often puts in an appearance, and by keeping calm and moving slowly they can be approached, presenting photographers with a great opportunity for that amazing shot.

At the base of the wall the depth is 12 - 15 metres, therefore background light levels are strong and the colours are bright - it is difficult for the photographer to leave this site. The shallow depth and sheltered aspect of this site makes it ideal for all levels of divers and as a training site for try dives and courses.
