Dive Leader training concentrates on the responsibility and safety aspects on leading other divers on an Open Water dive. Practical lessons in Rescue Management Skills will give you the confidence and ability to deal with those unforeseen emergencies. Leading a dive will develop your enjoyment, confidence and experience as a diver.
What is BSAC Dive Leader?
A Dive Leader is defined as a diver who:
Can plan and lead a range of dives including those requiring detailed dive, air and decompression requirements planning.
Has the skill and level of knowledge to progressively extend his / her skills to take part in a wide range of adventurous dives.
Has rescue management skills.
Is competent to marshal and supervise branch dives to locations well known to the branch, or using experienced skippers, or in conditions not normally described as "challenging"
Can dive to a depth which is initially limited to 35m, but which can subsequently be extended progressively to 50m.
Can conduct dives with divers of any grade to expand their experience beyond that previously encountered by those divers, under the supervision of a dive marshal.
Can conduct experience dives with trainee Ocean Divers, within the restrictions of the conditions already encountered by the trainee Ocean Diver, under the supervision of a dive marshal.
What do I need to start? You will need to be a qualifies BSAC Sports Diver with a minimum of twenty dives in a range of conditions, since qualifying as Sports Diver, or equivalent diver training from another organization.
What will I do? The Ocean Diver and Sports Diver Courses were biased towards learning skills and knowledge while underpinning this with appropriate experience. The Dive Leader course continues to build on these skills and knowledge, but the experience element becomes increasingly important. The Dive leader Course consists of twelve classroom lessons, a theory assessment, seven Open Water lessons and two dry practical lessons.
How long will it take? All practical training in both sheltered and open water includes the achievement of specific performance standards at appropriate points throughout the lessons. Generally, we find that the course can be completed in between six and seven days. (Providing that the candidate is adequately prepared)
What is included in the course fees? BSAC Dive Leader Training Pack - including the "Dive Leading" manual, Dive Leader Student notes and qualification page for binder.
